Asarel-Medet JSC is a company for copper ore mining and processing from the Asarel deposit near Panagyurishte; it marks its 60th anniversary in 2025. The company has received over 90 national and international awards for investment, innovation, environmental protection, management, corporate culture, occupational safety, and corporate social responsibility.
Nearly 1,200 employees are involved in the company’s team at Asarel-Medet JSC and over 1,100 people employed by its subsidiaries and joint ventures.
It is the largest employer in the Municipality of Panagyurishte, contributing with over 40% of the municipality's own-source revenue and generating two-thirds of the total value added by local enterprises. According to an analysis by the Institute for Market Economics, the company makes the largest contribution to household incomes in the entire disrict of Pazardzhik.
Among the company's most significant social projects that have transformed the region are the dedicated vault for the Gold Treasure of Panagyurishte and public-private partnerships for the construction of the Arena Asarel multi-purpose sports hall and the state-of-the-art Uni Hospital General Treatment Facility. Thanks to the latter, Panagyurishte has the third highest number of doctors per capita in the country.
