The Research, Development and Innovation Sector of St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University carries out assessments of the condition of environmental components on an annual basis. The so-called Integrated Environmental Polygon was established in 1986 at a time when this was not a regulatory requirement. Thanks to these early steps, the company today has a large set of comparative data demonstrating the environmental performance achieved over the decades.

Analyses have been conducted on air quality under various conditions, the specific characteristics of hydrochemical flows, the ecological and geochemical status of river sediments, as well as phytomonitoring studies. All measurements, procedures and laboratory analyses are fully based on current standards, carried out using accredited technical equipment and in accordance with approved methodologies.

Environmental monitoring confirms compliance with the individual emission limits set out in the Integrated Permit for the Cathode Copper SolventExtraction and Electrowinning Plant, as well as the requirements of the Mining Waste Management Plan for 2025. The scope of the studies includes systematic analyses of surface waters, groundwater, soils and environmental noise.

Real-time data from the monitoring stations along the river catchments in the area of the company are available. The following parameters can be observed: pH, Dissolved Oxygen (mg/l) and Electrical Conductivity (µS/cm) in the waters at the monitored locations.
